I know it’s not always reasonable to hire a photographer (yes I said it) like when your child looses their first tooth, or when they make those adorable faces that you wish everyone could see. I have a billion pics of my kids on my computer & phone (yes a BILLION)! I use to delete most of them because I was running out of room, but not anymore. I want to share a few photo tips on how to best take pics of your kids & how to store them.
LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT is the #1 key to photography. I’m not talking about flash (which is very helpful at times) but beautiful organic natural daylight. When photographing your child or anyone indoors try to find the best light source in your house. For me it’s always a window towards the front of my house & in my studio of course. Move the person around until you find the best spot that will illuminate their face without being too harsh. Don’t put their backs toward the window but rather facing the window or to the side, otherwise you will get very dark shadows.
Photograph them when they aren’t looking: The most natural shots you can get are the ones they don’t pose for. I love getting moments that are just part of our everyday. Those are the pictures I treasure the most!
Details: It’s all in the details when it comes to photographing kids. With children you are capturing moments that go by so quickly & that Is why I LOVE to photograph their fingers & toes and scraped knees or dirty faces! Those pictures to me represent childhood.
How to store your precious memories:
The way I store my pics is through a separate hard drive that I have connected to my computer. This allows you to have your photos stored in a separate source in case your computer crashes, & saves space on your PC. Places like BestBuy has many options at reasonable prices.
Other options are online photo storage sites: http: Here is a great article by CNET that will go over the different online companies & gives you a breakdown of each one: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57462902-285/comparing-the-best-ways-to-store-your-photos-online
